What started as a robbery to grab the monthly payroll of the Copper Queen Mine escalated to murder leaving five people dead including Annie Roberts’s unborn child.  The bandits escaped and in an extraordinary and effective effort by County Sheriff Jerome Ward and his deputies all were captured and jailed in Tombstone in just 45 days. The five gang members who committed the robbery and murders—Red Sample, Tex Howard, Mick Kelly, Big Dan Dowd and Billy Delaney—went to trial on February 9.  Judge David H.     On February 16, 2009, Charla Nash visited the home of her friend Sandra Herold and found Herold's pet chimpanzee Travis in a state of unusual agitation. It is arguably one of the most infamous books ever written. It served as a guidebook for Inquisitors and was designed to aid them in the identification, prosecution, and dispatching of Witches. The recommended procedures included torture to effectively obtain confessions and the death penalty as the only sure remedy against the evils of witchcraft. For example: "The next step of the Judge would be, that, if after being fittingly tortured the Witch refuses to confess the truth, he would have other methods of torture brought before her, and tell her that she will have to endure these if she does not confess. If then she is not induced by terror to confess, the torture will be continued on the second or third day, until she confesses." Vietnam is considering the resumption of execution by firing squad because of problems getting chemicals for lethal injections, according to state media. The Laborer newspaper quoted the minister of public security, Tran Dai Quang, asking the national assembly to allow the use of firing squads until the end of 2015, along with execution by lethal injection. In 2011, the country decided to switch from firing squads to lethal injection on humanitarian grounds, but only seven prisoners have been executed since August after a long delay as it struggled to obtain needed chemicals. Friday's report quoted several lawmakers as saying the move would relieve pressure on prisons. Well, 2023 didn’t exactly go to plan, did it?
